About Custom Rods / Why Go Custom?

Generally speaking, a custom rod is any rod that is not "factory" in some way and or has been "customized" so it is different than a mass-produced counter-part.

Most custom fishing rods in our opinion are built entirely from the ground up specifically for an individual to suite their fishing requirements, comfort & ascetic tastes.

Why go custom?

Fishermen/women go custom when they can't find an off the shelf model that fit's the need they wish to fill.

Comfort is one area that factory rods do not do well in as they are built to suite a very wide range of possible users. A custom rod can be made with shorter or longer, bigger or smaller grips and or use a different material for the grips and reel seat that is far more comfortable for the individual thus allowing for a more enjoyable  and longer time on the water.

Many of our clients can't find a factory model that will do what they want it do. Common models are either to long or to short for them, not available in the power or action they need, are only made in a 1pc model or not made in a 1pc model at all.  We at Snake River Rods  can build a rod that has all the parameters required or at least all the parameters that are possible to suite the clients requirements. In fact, many different types of rod blanks are only available to the custom rod builder. The O.E.M.s just cannot sell that many models in the volume they have to in order to stay solvent. I bet you didn't know that!

Component selection and design is another area where Snake River Rods can excel over the O.E.M.'s. We use our time on the water, input from our clients, and knowledgeable test procedures to design rods that use every ounce of potential that the blank have to offer and to focus that potential to best suite the specific user. Some components are either not available to the O.E.M's or not cost effective for them.

Finally, here at Snake River Rods we can use thread, exotic woods, engraving, and many other materials & talents to create absolutely stunning works of art incorporated into your fishing rod. Threadwork like cross-wraps, weaves, and guide wrap inlays. Finish marbling, cork checkering and many other types of grip inlays, and feather-work are but a few things commonly found on prized custom rods. Using a rod that performs the way you want all day is bliss and having it pleasing to the eyes all day is icing on the cake!
